"Reading Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Purple Hibiscus has introduced to me Kambili, the narrator and an individual from the novel whom I found compelling. Throughout the plot, Adichie depicts the journey of Kambili from innocence to experience as she confronts the obstacles of her teenage life. As a reader, I am able to empathise with the hardships that she encounters from her family and as an adolescent. Papa Eugene’s domestic violence, unrequited love, and the bitter consequences of silence triggered Kambili’s character, shy and awkward, to slowly grow into a young adult who better understands her emotions.
