On the Road av Jack Kerouac | Literary analysis
En analys på engelska av Jack Kerouacs bok "On The Road" från 1957. Eleven analyserar bland annat Jacks författarstil, bokens innehåll och därmed Jacks livsstil och "Beat-generation".
On The Road takes the reader on a road trip through a life in America consisting of sex, drugs and jazz. Kerouac is a man who is true to his passions and has a large appetite for women and allows himself to go for his desires. This is for instance illustrated in Jack's reflection when he sees a girl in the street “A pain stabbed my heart, as it did every time I saw a girl I loved who was going the opposite direction in this too-big world of ours” (p.182).
The book is chronological. Kerouac writes in haste, action after action. There is no paragraphing, and sometimes the sentences can extend to almost a whole page. After all, Jack Kerouac states in an interview on The Steve Allen Show, 1959, that he wrote the book in just three weeks, one can not have any breaks then. The book is a clear example of authorial intrusion. Kerouac presence is always there in his writing. He tells his story fast and with flow.
