The Cold War

Dwight Eisenhower’s speech “Atoms for speech” was delivered in 1953 during a time known as the Cold War. The Cold War was a period of international geopolitical tension between the United States and the Soviet Union and their allies following the Second World War. The conflict revolved around the ideological and political differences between the two states, as The Soviet Union was ruled by a communist ideal of a state-controlled economy, while the US was democratic and capitalistic. The conflict lasted for more than 40 years and it is called the Cold War because the two states were never involved in direct warfare against each other.
