Steve Jobs begins his Commencement Address at Stanford University by saying that he is going to tell the audience three stories from his life. In this way, Jobs’ speech is structured into three parts that each present one of his stories. He signals the beginning of each part by saying “the first story is about connecting the dots”, “my second story is about love and loss”, and “my third story is about death”. In this way, Jobs also hints at the content of the section that is to follow. 

In the first part of his speech, Jobs tells a personal story about his college education. In the beginning of this section Jobs says that he dropped out of college after six months and then explains why he dropped out. He then starts his story by referring to his birth and his parent...
