Changes in social structure

In the novel The Wave, by Morton Rhue, the introduction of The Wave movement changes the social structure of the school completely. Previously, there was a clearly defined hierarchy that excluded some students and made others very popular.

Laurie Saunders is considered one of the most popular girls at school until the introduction of the experiment. Parents and teachers see her as a role model as well:

‘Don’t you know that half the parents in school say to their kids, ‘Why can’t you be like Laurie Saunders’?’ Amy asked. ‘Come on, Laurie, the only reason you’re against The Wave is because it means you’re not a princess anymore.’(Chapter 14, 14%-29%).
